Gold Camp Castlemaine is a group formed in 2022 to advocate specifically for a more appropriate plan for Camp Reserve.

Camp Reserve

Our community cherishes Camp Reserve and perceives that the endorsed Master Plan will permanently erase the topography, treescape and vistas of a highly significant place. The former colonial Government Camp is Castlemaine’s premier historic precinct. It is the last remaining legible Commissioner’s Camp, and the military parade ground, Camp Reserve, is a main component.

Protected Landscape

GCC is a diverse group of people from the Central Victorian Goldfields and beyond. We care about this protected landscape which will be forever diminished if the current Master Plan is followed.

A precinct is valuable as a whole. To diminish a part puts the remainder at risk. GCC promotes a renewal of facilities that values the unique significance of the site.

Productive Liaising

We liaise productively with:heritage organisations, council,politicians, universitieslocal heritage societiesplanners, heritage consultantslawyers, user groups

Statutory Protections

We coordinate statutory protection nominations through experts and raise the finances for the costs.

Fundraising & Information

We host events to raise funds. To date we have had a successful auction, several community meetings and a tour of the Government Camp. We plan more tours, and more events as this campaign rolls out. Funds are being continuously raised.
